Well in a week where my northern house was going to be going up for sale, my son has decided that instead of renting a grotty student house that still hasn’t moved on in 40 years, he is actually going to rent our house. Hopefully, this is going to be a good thing for all of us. It means I have somewhere I can stay when I visit Sheffield for work also catching up with family and friends but it also means my son is moving into a nice house!

So the fact I had cleared so much out of the house I didn’t need to, I now need to move more things back in eek! So it got me thinking about a sofa for him and looking around all I can see is velvet sofas and mainly in Blue, Teal or Green. Such beautiful shapes and styles that I had to share what has been popping up in my mind this week.

Velvet is everywhere at the moment from sofas to armchairs to ottomans. This trend of jewel tones means this luxurious material offers rich texture to a room with warmth and style so it is a great choice to add right now.

Just adding one piece of velvet can make a bold statement and it can look as formal or as casual as you like. Adding a rich tone of velvet will only enhance a space. Adding a velvet sofa to a Scandinavian style will make it the statement piece of the room whereas adding velvet pieces to a dark eclectic room will add depth and texture to help lift the room focus. So many choices here for different styles. When you mix up velvet with other on-trend pieces like warm metals it just oozes glamour and sophistication.

If you don’t want to go for a big change like a sofa there are some great choices in armchairs and ottomans that offer this trend but in smaller doses.

Looking around on the high street I found some great pieces to share.

I am loving the Le Cocktail Twin by Oliver Bonas Priced at £585. This sofa although not very big just oozes style! So many places this could fit into and for it to sit next to a bar trolley would just be a match made in heaven! I am imagining those Gin cocktails now.

The Bagsie by Loaf is just something I could sink in right now. Priced at £1795 for the medium size it is an investment worth spending and by the look of it will age nicely.

The Berlin by Swoon Editions is another favourite and fabulous colours to choose from. I love it in the Kingfisher colour priced at £1199

The Scott by Made.com looks like a fabulous way to spend an evening curled up and priced at £999 is a good price!

The Chester by Habitat is reduced to £1’120 in a lovely grey and looks the part!

Now all I have to do is think about giving my son my old Chesterfield and purchasing myself a new one but which one should I choose? Maybe I should put to a public vote 🙂

Oh this is stunning! We are in need of a new couch and I am desperate for something more luxurious like this! We went with leather last time because of the kids but now I want fabric, or velvet!!

I have to admit I would never have thought of going for a velvet sofa but they actually look really nice. Not sure how it would work with a dog who likes jumping on and off though.

I love the teal colour in this sofa – I want a new one but we are getting the front room decorated and replastered first

I love the idea of a velvet sofa more as a statement piece in an office as opposed to my main sofa, but the colours are beautiful x

I love that green sofa, it’s very daring but works so well with the rest of the room.

I adore velvet and would love a velvet sofa but currently we are looking for one that has a higher back and supports your neck. You’d be surprised how few of those there are. Sofas have to be comfy as well as gorgeous, don’t they?

The only person I know that has velvet sofas is my grandmother, she has her expensive velvet material couches from way back and has beautifully preserved them. Glad to see this is now in fashion

I don’t think I know anyone who owns a velvet sofa. However, I do love them! I wouldn’t have any now because of my kids being so young but would love an arm chair in velvet if they’re still ‘in’ in a few years!

That looks so soft and comfy. I adore the colour too – it would totally fit in to my living room.
